Composition per liter:

Peptone..............................................................40.0g

Lactose..............................................................30.0g

Yeast extract........................................................6.0g

Phenol Red..........................................................0.2g

Sodium lauryl sulfate

(Teepol, 0.1% solution) ............................ 4.0mL

pH 7.4 ± 0.2 at 25°C

Preparation of Medium: Add components to

distilled/deionized water and bring volume to 1.0L.

Mix thoroughly. Distribute into tubes or flasks. Auto

clave for 15 min at 15 psi pressure–121°C.

Use: For the enumeration of coliform organisms and Es

cherichia coli by the membrane filter method.
